Happy Monday awesome Bonanzlers! Just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know what we are working on this week. We did not have a sprint this week (a sprint is a list of goals we have for the week) because we already have a full list of tasks to address from our last sprint. We also have many behind the scenes tasks that need programming love (in addition to bugs that have been reported).
One thing we did change today was the social hot buttons on the item detail page. Before the buttons were all visible by default, now they are only accessible by clicking on the "Share" icon (see below image). This was changed so we can clean up the item detail page (we are big fans of decluttering things), and also because the traffic received via these channels makes up a very small percentage of our overall traffic (given the valuable real estate they took up on that page). Does this mean that Social Media does not work? Absolutely not. In fact there are many articles out there that will guide you in the best way to use social media for your eCommerce business. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected]

I wish you would re-think this. Many outside buyers and browsers who want to pin or tweet an item are not going to know to click share. Support had to direct me to this as I thought our buttons were gone due to a glitch.
Pinterest is a huge potential market for sellers with millions of users and growing. I use my own pin button, but many do not know how, and expect to see one on site.
I am tracking a good portion of my visitors on Lexity from Pinterest in particular, many from twitter.
It also creates one more unnecessary step for us to have to complete when promoting. All marketplaces have these buttons visible for use.
They take up a tiny amount of space and are not ugly.
And a question. I was told by support that an insignificant amount of business here comes from Google Organic. If a small percentage also comes from Twitter, FaceBook, Google+, and Pinterest, where does the majority of business come from?
Thanks for your feedback. In answer to your question, Google Organic is a fine source of traffic for Bonanza. Not sure if our comment at support was miscommunicated or lost in translation. In any case, that is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth
Thank you so much, Mark. I thought maybe I had done something to cause them to be missing!!
However, I do not know that this is a good idea. Visitors will not knoow how to find the buttons.
You are welcome
From what I understand, visitors were not finding the buttons anyway. Our biggest users of the social buttons are seasoned sellers on Bonanza.
Hmmm… I dunno. When I’m out wandering around the big ol’ time-and-attention-sponge that is the web, I have grown accustomed to seeing buttons for Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter on EVERYTHING. Every news article I read, every blog post anywhere, every pretty picture, and of course every for-sale item on any site. I’m just so used to seeing them (and I do use the Facebook and Twitter ones pretty often) that it looks almost WEIRD not to see them offered when I’m looking at something. Those little buttons are so common nowadays that I don’t know how removing them could be seen as decluttering. It’s more like moving backwards rather than keeping up, so to speak. Just my two cents.
I like the cleaner appearance of the page and the “share” is very obvious so easy to use
I have to say, I also wish you would rethink this. If an outside non-member wants to tweet, pinterest, or whatever me or another, they now have no way to.
I can’t find that on the old “sprints” Was it generated from feedback?
If you made the blue balloon a smidge bigger, and used white silhouette of the “f, t, p” logos inside it, the problem would solve itself.
“(given the valuable real estate they took up on that page).” from what i see the “real estate” area where it WILL be displayed is EMPTY anyway. if it was a good idea when the initial icons were placed, how is it not a good idea now. someone had a thought and spent time doing something that is IMO really NOT an improvement. The Share icon is a actually a drop-down menu but doesn’t indicate. personally, i think it could be encircled blue and use the arrow indicators, as is the option for “More Tools – Add to Widget.”
I do like it but, when I click share it brings up every thing it should. When I click Pin, It opens the Pin Box and closes the page I am on.
Just another bug for you all to hunt down.
Thanks for all of you hard work on this site.
Kevin
Hello, hello, hello~
per the above comment from a few days ago,
Pin does NOT leave me on the item, NOR in Bonanza
i’m in never-never land until i click See Pin then i go to my Pinterest.
All my sales come from social media traffic. I don’t even use Google to drive people to my booth. Facebook and Twitter do all the work for me. Google never has, and is oversold by Google. I’ve used the Google feed…no hits. Facebook feed 100s of hits. Twitter feed the same. Maybe your traffic comes from Google, but the buyers come from social media….
is anyone at Bz looking into the problem? is it just me? please restore the old Pin method so ppl aren’t thrown out of Bonanza. i suppose it’s not possible to restore the old method that worked without complaint.
Could you please email us the details to [email protected] so we can investigate? Thank you
