- BRIGHT PINK HOLLYHOCKS. Only bright pink blooms. All flowers are singles. Heart shaped leaves with 3-4" flowers. Bloom stalks can reach 7' - 10' tall. Easy to grow American heirloom. Originally from China. Hollyhocks found their way to Europe and then to the U.S. Colonies. The tough fibrinous stalks were used in the production of paper and cloth. The flowers were used to make dyes. Kids used the flowers as small dolls. If you cut off a flower and turn it upside down, it resembles a woman in a fancy ball dress. Hollyhocks have a deep tap root which means they're really good in drought conditions but don't transplant very well. Try to sow seed in their permanent home. Sometimes hollyhocks will do a abbreviated bloom at the end of their first season, but usually wait until their second season to do a full bloom. Some plants might go a 3rd or 4th year. Pretty much a carefree plant once established. Medium water once or twice a week if no rain. A little organic fertilizer every month or so will increase blooms. After the growing season is over, cut back stalks to ground level and cover with leaves for protection. The next spring brush of the leaf cover and a new plant will spring up. 50+seeds per order. Thank You!
