Antique Tibetan Gau
Prayer Box Necklace Turquoise Mesh Chain
This one-of-a-kind
antique necklace is probably from the 19th century
Gau are small prayer
boxes that were used when Tibetans traveled and wanted to carry Buddhist
prayers and relics with them. The front of this gau is made from silver and decorated with scrolls and inlaid turquoise that looks like it
has been there for a very long time. The back looks like it is made of bronze.
The chain is silver mesh
with a hook closure.
The turquoise box pendant is 2.1/2" x 2.3/4"
The two separate chains are 8" each
