Seitei (Shotei) Watanabe Starling and Snake and similar items

WOODBLOCK PRINT from "NIPPON MOKUHAN GASUI (Japanese woodblock print series) This series consists of masterpieces of Ukiyo-e, original painting of Japan, and ancient painting of China. Prints were made from carved wood and printed in the very best of woodcut techniques of the Taisho period (1920?s). Artist: Watanabe Seitei (Shotei) Watanabe 1851-1918 Meiji Period 1868-1912 Title: Starling and "karasu-uri" (Snake Gourd). Woodblock print. Image size: 11.9 inches x 7.8 inches Mounting stock size upon which the woodblock print attached is: 10.5 inches x 14.5 inches. This print is in fine condition. The woodblock print is affixed in each corner to an embossed thick paper stock, over this is a thin tissue with details about the artist in Japanese and English. There is light water staining on the lower edge of the mounting thicker paper not affect the print and some wrinkling of the tissue paper overlay. This woodblock print was obtained in 1945 in Japan by my father Zane Edward Miller M.D. where he served as a physician in the U. S. Army.
