Description
A charming vintage bisque porcelain figurine in the classic country pastoral tradition, depicting a young girl seated on a grassy mound beside a rustic knotted tree trunk bearing red cherries or berries. She wears a vivid yellow dress with a white underskirt and blue collar, cuffs and hair bow, and bright red shoes with dark soles. Her expression is cheerful and rosy-cheeked, with carefully painted blue eyes, red lips and dark brown hair swept up in pigtails. Beside her sits a neat white goose with a small dark eye, rendered with feather texture detail. The scene is completed by soft pink and white flowers at the base of the tree, all set on an oval grassy green mound base.
The piece is characteristic of the popular Hummel-inspired pastoral giftware style widely produced across East Asia ? primarily Taiwan and Korea ? throughout the 1970s and 1980s, distributed by brands such as HOMCO (Home Interiors), Lefton, and numerous unbranded lines for the European and North American gift market. The unsigned base with two drainage holes and white bisque underside is typical of this production era and origin.
The colours are bright and well-preserved, with the vibrant yellow of the dress and the vivid red of the cherry clusters giving the piece strong visual appeal. The figurine has a pleasing three-dimensional composition with detail carried fully around all sides, making it attractive from multiple angles. The face is particularly well-painted for this type, with naturalistic shading and expressive detail.
Composition details
Girl: Seated posture, brown hair with blue bow, yellow dress, blue collar and cuffs, white underskirt, red shoes with black soles, bare arms
Goose: White, nestled beside the girl, with small black eye and detailed feather texture
Tree: Knotted rustic trunk with forked branches bearing clusters of bright red cherries/berries and small green leaves
Flowers: Pink daisy-type flower with yellow centre and white flower buds at base
Base: Oval green grass mound, textured blade-of-grass detailing, white bisque underside
Condition notes
The figurine is in good used vintage condition. Specific points to note:
Paint chipping and loss on the red cherry clusters at the top of the tree ? most noticeable on the uppermost berries, maybe missing one
Minor surface wear consistent with age and gentle display use
Slight scuff visible at the join between the girl's torso and the base mound
No chips, cracks or breaks observed on the main figure, goose, or base
Colours otherwise vivid and well-preserved; face painting clean and intact
Please examine all photographs carefully before purchasing. Sold as seen.
Display collecting appeal
This type of pastoral figurine has seen consistent interest from collectors of cottage-style, farmhouse, and country decor, as well as those who collect 1970s?80s giftware and bisque porcelain more broadly. The bright, cheerful palette makes it an attractive display piece for a dresser, windowsill, or curio cabinet. It would also suit collectors of goose or bird-themed ceramics.
Postage packaging
Will be carefully bubble-wrapped and packed in a sturdy box with additional padding material. Tracked postage recommended. Please contact me with any questions before purchasing.
