Sterling Silver Art Nouveau Whiting and Davis Chainmail Chatelaine Coin Purse
Measures 2" wide, 1/4" deep and 4 3/4" tall.
This beautiful item is an antique chainmail chatelaine coin purse (often called a sovereign purse or miniature mesh pendant). Dating primarily from the late Victorian to the Edwardian eras (circa 1890?1920), these miniature pouches were incredibly popular fashion accessories. It features a decorative metal frame (repousse or filigree style) with an integrated kiss-clasp closure, an intricately woven metal mesh body, and delicate hanging metal drop beads along the bottom rim. The large ring at the top allowed it to be suspended from a woman's chatelaine?a decorative belt hook or clip worn at the waist to carry daily essentials like keys, thimbles, watches, and money. It could also be worn directly as a statement necklace pendant.
