Item description
Antique ca. 1831 Shannondale Springs Virginia Adams Staffordshire Red Transferware Plates
Set of six
Made in Staffordshire, England
Stamped ?Shannondale Springs, Virginia, U.S.?and Adams
Depicts a landscape with two seated fishermen looking across a river at a hillside resort. This scene is one of twelve views in Adams? American Views Series, source print from a drawing by Charles Burton of New York.
Shannondale was a tourist attraction with its mineral springs. George Washington is said to have frequented the springs. The first hotel facility was built on the site in 1819.
American Views on early Staffordshire transferware are rare, finding a set of six pieces together is especially rare
Measures about 8" diameter
Pre-owned, pretty good condition, no cracks or chips, some plates have some browning or crazing, please examine all photos
