It is an organic phenol beta hydroxy acid. Salicylic acid is also found in unripe fruits, as it is part of their development process. This natural compound is used to treat a variety of skin problems from acne and calluses, to seborrhic dermatitis and psoriasis. Acne is caused by a bacteria called propionibacterium acnes, and this bacteria thrives when the pH of your skin goes up.
