Water Celebration Program from Boston in 1848. Not a copy. Original. Exhibits some creasing and staining from being tucked away in a book for over 150 years but remains in incredible Victorian antique condition. Some locally famous names on here including: Hon. Daniel Sharp Mayor Quincy The Handel and Haydn society of Boston Incredibly rare The celebration can be found online for those looking for more context.. but here are some notes: On Oct. 25, 1848, a stream of water gushed from a fountain before 100,000 people assembled on Boston Common for the city?s great water celebration. Bells rang, rockets soared and people cheered, laughed, sang and even cried. A great civic undertaking had been completed. The great day began with a 100-gun salute and an immense parade through the city. Mayor Quincy gave a speech, at the end of which he asked if the people of Boston were ready for Cochituate water. The crowd roared, the gates opened and a stream of water 80 feet high burst from the Frog Pond Fountain.
