Item description
Stunning Uniface Proof Pattern Empire Dollar
Possibly Unique!
Hsüan-t'ung silver Uniface Proof Pattern Dollar ND (1910) PR64 PCGS, Central Mint at Tientsin, type of L M-24, type of Kann-219, unlisted as a uniface Pattern strike in all reference books. The reverse is identical to the normal Pattern issue reverse, showing the dragon design, while the obverse is entirely blank This exceptional coin displays fully mirrored fields, with frosted devices. Light golden toning, with scattered spots of russet, overlay surfaces free of all but the most minute marks. The only reference we could find of this amazing piece is in the Irving Goodman Collection of Chinese Coins, auctioned by Superior Galleries in 1995, Lot 1310. The Goodman example was also listed as a Proof, although uncertified, and close examination of this piece, and the Goodman coin, show them to be the same coin. This is the only piece certified by PCGS, and none have been certified by NGC. Possibly Unique.
