Item description
Title- "Wedding Anniversary"- the ad shows an older couple being toasted on their anniversary. This is one of several ads from this interesting series that we now have for sale. It was illustrated by Douglass Crockwell and is number 22 in the series "Home Life in America".
History- Douglass Crockwell (1904 - 1968), was an American commercial artist who was most famous for his illustrations and advertisements for the Saturday Evening Post. He had a knack for getting the kind of assignments that were Norman Rockwellesque. His name was even similar to Rockwell's; too much, Crockwell thought, so he'd sign his name to hide the rhyming similarity: "Douglas," "DC," or simply "D."
Crockwell had his own style, however, and his incredible realism and facility with subjects ranging from war to illness to family reunions made him one of the most popular artists of the 1940s and 50s. His longest ad campaign was for The Brewing Industry Association. After WWII, the Association created the "Beer Belongs" series, featuring other top illustrators (Gannam, Dohanos, Schaeffer, Briggs, Sundblom), but the majority were still done by Crockwell.
Dimensions- 10 1/4 x 14 inches.
Condition- Excellent.
Most of the ads in my booth are from tabloid-sized magazines, measuring about 10 x 14 inches. The ads are shipped flat in rigid envelopes reinforced with cardboard inserts and, because of their large size, these ads are expensive to mail. Shipping cost in the USA and Canada is $9 US per order. The good thing is the shipping cost is per order and not per ad. The cost is the same no matter how many ads you buy, if you buy them at the same time.
?Buyers outside of North America please contact us for an exact shipping quote.
All of the magazine ads I have listed are guaranteed to be 100% authentic originals, carefully removed from the original magazine.
