Item description
This United States First Day Cover (FDC) features the Scott #C55 Air Mail stamp issued in 1960. The stamp depicts a stylized jet airplane in red, part of the Air Mail New Color series. The postmark is dated October 22, 1960, from Atlantic City, New Jersey, clearly marking the First Day of Issue with a "FIRST DAY OF ISSUE" cancel.
The cachet is printed in red ink and shows a detailed illustration of a jet plane ascending with the text "1960 AIR MAIL NEW COLOR COIL FIRST DAY COVER" to the left side of the envelope. The cachet includes the small initials "HF" near the plane's tail, indicating the cachet artist, though the specific cachet maker is not explicitly credited on the cover. The envelope is addressed to Joseph Simek in Gates Mills, Ohio, with a typed address. The back of the envelope shows a return address for William J. Kolak in Cleveland, Ohio.
