Item description
Vintage original 8x10 in. U.S. single-weight glossy photograph, fine+ condition.
The epic silent film drama THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE was released in 1921 by Metro Pictures Corporation and directed by Rex Ingram. This was the film that made a star of Rudolph Valentino and led to his casting in Paramount's The Sheik later that same year. The photograph offered here is from one of the film's key sequences as Tchernoff (Nigel De Brulier, center) dramatically reveals the story of the impending apocalypse that will doom the world, as evidenced by the outbreak of World War I, to young Julio Desnoyers (Rudolph Valentino) and another man. On the bottom of the verso is a typed caption which reads: THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE A METRO-GOLDWYN PICTURE. Handwritten sideways along the bottom of the left border of the verso in light black ink is a prior owner's name (Helen Stewart Chicago Illinois).
Printed on single-weight stock with a glossy finish, this vintage original photograph is in fine+ condition with a 0.25 and a 0.5 in diagonal crease on the top left corner; a 0.25 in. diagonal crease on the top border near the right corner within the border only; a 0.5 in. mark of what may be grease pencil in the right border approximately 3 in. below the top right corner; and a very light 0.75 in. vertical crease in the bottom of the right border.
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse; Metro Pictures Corporation; 1921; based upon the famous novel by Vicente Blasco Ibáñez; dir: Rex Ingram; cast: Rudolph Valentino, Alice Terry, Josef Swickard, Pomeroy Cannon, Bridgetta Clark, Virginia Warwick, Alan Hale, Mabel Van Buren, St. Holmes, John St. Polis, Mark Fenton, Nigel De Brulier. Wallace Beery, Arthur Hoyt.
