Item description
Vintage original 3.5 x 5.5. in. US postcard depicting silent film actress LILLIAN WALKER c.1915. Issued for publicity purposes during her association with the Vitagraph Company of America (founded by J. Stuart Blackton and Albert E. Smith in 1897), the image depicts an interior studio shot of her smiling for the camera. This vintage original postcard is in fine condition with two pinholes in the bottom left corner of the image area and one in the bottom right corner; a 0.25 in. diagonal crease on the bottom right corner; and random smudges in the borders.
Born
in Brooklyn, New York, Lillian Walker was a 22-year-old showgirl appearing in
"The Follies of 1910" on Broadway, when Vitagraph Studios head J.
Stuart Blackton saw a picture of her and snapped her up for a role
in The Inherited Taint (1911).
She developed into one of Vitagraph's top stars, extremely popular with
moviegoers, and earned the nickname "Dimples". She left Vitagraph in
1917 and had a long career as a character actress, making her last film in
1934. She died on the Caribbean island of Trinidad in 1975, age 88.
