Item description
Palaeocarcharodon Tooth, Pre-historic Ancestor
to the Great White Shark , Genuine Tooth, Serrated, Worldwide Shipping
For sale is a Palaeocarcharodon
tooth. The Palaeocarcharodon was an obscure, pre-historic
ancestor to the Great White Shark. This shark is
believed to have existed during the Paleocene era. This tooth originates from Morocco.
· The tooth itself measures about 1-1.5 inches long (2.5 to 4cm) long and may differ slightly from
what is pictured in the photos.
· A tooth will be selected at random from the
lot pictured.
(from chondrichthyes fandom):
“Palaeocarcharodon, also known as the pygmy white shark, is a genus of sharks in the family Cretoxyrhinidae. Palaeocarcharodon orientalis is the only species of this genus. These sharks lived in the Paleocene, from 61.7 to 55.8 Ma.
Since the fossil record of Palaeocarcharodon only relies on
teeth in many sizes, much is unknown about the size and appearance of
these sharks, though it is likely that they may have resembled a mako or
great white. Some paleontologists consider the Palaeocarcharodon as the predecessor of the white shark ( great white-Carcharodon ) and the great Carcharodon Megalodon.
Teeth of Palaeocarcharodon are triangular, labio-lingually
compressed, with quite irregular serrations and serrate lateral
cusplets. They can reach a size of about 3–6 centimetres (1.2–2.4 in).”
