Vintage original First Draft Continuity script from what we believe is an unproduced film by Twentieth Century-Fox that was written for Jack Oakie. It is entitled SONG AND DANCE MAN, written by Brown Holmes, and based upon the production of the same name by the renowned George M. Cohan, a 1930 revival of his tribute to vaudeville and his father. This First Draft Continuity script is dated July 8, 1941. It consists of 133 pages on off-white stock plus the title page and a one-page form at the end (which the recipient would have to sign and provide to the Stenographic Department) that is still complete and intact, all of which has been 3-hole punched and bound with three metal grommets inside a one-piece wrap-around orange cover with the Fox logo at the bottom of the front cover. As indicated in the lower right corner of the front cover, this was the 10th copy of this script that was printed. To the best of our knowledge, this script is complete in overall fine+ to very fine- condition. All of the interior pages are in very fine condition except for the title page, which has what looks like five 1.5 in. horizontal cuts to the right of the credits as well as water stains in the bottom third, which carry over to the next three pages in lesser amounts. The outer cover has a vertical crease along the right edge from where it was wrapped down around the edge of the interior pages and has some small tears and creases along the outer right edge. The back cover is in better condition with a similar vertical crease near the left edge and signs of wear across the top edge. Jack Oakie, under contract to Twentieth Century-Fox at the time, had previously co-starred in The Great American Broadcast, another radio-themed story, that was released on May 9, 1941. This First Draft Continuity script is dated July 8, 1941 and makes reference on page 1 that the character of Joe Farrell would be played by Jack Oakie. There are no other references to specific actors for any of the other characters.
