Item description
Vintage original Release Dialogue Script from the popular 1960's murder-themed drama, WHERE LOVE HAS GONE, released in 1964 by Paramount Pictures and directed by Edward Dmytryk. Based upon the novel by Harold Robbins, a divorced couple's teen-age daughter stands trial for stabbing her mother's latest lover. The cast includes Susan Hayward, Bette Davis, Mike Connors, Joey Heatherton, Jane Greer, DeForest Kelley, George Macready, Anne Seymour, Walter Reed, and Ann Doran.
This Release Dialogue Script was prepared after the film was fully edited with the beginning and end credits in place. It breaks the film down by each reel (there were 12) and notes the action and dialgoue of the entire film. This particular script was used by someone involved in the film's production, as it includes handwritten notations through in pencil and red pencil (see photos). Printed on eye-rest green stock and bound with two large staples, this vintage original Release Dialogue Script is complete in overall very fine condition with a 5 in. diagonal crease on the top right corner of the first three pages; two small stains on the bottom of the cover page along with signs of wear along the bottom edge; and light signs of wear on the bottom left corner of the first 12 pages.
Although repeatedly denied at the time, this film (and the novel on which it was based) were widely believed to be about the infamous Lana Turner / Johnny Stompanato case of 1958. Stompanato, a violent gangster, was Turner's boyfriend and her daughter, Cheryl Crane, stabbed Stompanato to death as he was beating Turner. Her defense at her murder trial was that she was afraid that Stompanato, who had beaten Turner many times before, was going to kill her this time. She was acquitted. At the last minute, the producers wanted to add a scene where Bette Davis' character goes insane and commits suicide. Davis resisted, saying it was out of character for the role. The producers attempted to sue her, but Davis won the case. The intense dislike between the characters played by Susan Hayward and Bette Davis was echoed by the antagonistic real-life relationship of the two actresses. Patty Duke, Deborah Walley, and Laurel Goodwin were all mentioned for the role of the daughter, ultimately played by Joey Heatherton. Edith Head's costumes apparently cost $200,000 to create.
