Item description

These are 2 vintage Empire Silver Co. Inc. 6 1/4 inch sterling silver candlesticks with a gadrooned base. Walmart sells a similar Empire pair of sterling silver candlesticks for over $200. Empire Silver Co. Inc. was founded in Brooklyn, New York in 1946 to manufacture sterling silver objects. It also came to manufacture silver plate and pewter items. These candlesticks are marked on the underside with Empire's sterling mark, "Sterling", "Weighted", and the pattern 620.I believe these were manufactured before 1960 and are "Mid-Century Modern". The shape is basically a tapered column with stair steps at the top and the shoulder. The base outer edge has the additional decoration of gadrooning The base is approximately 3 1/4 inches across and the top is approximately 1 5/8 inches across. The opening is approximately 7/8 inches across. The inside of the candle cup is threaded and can accept a candelabra fitting. Many candlesticks have this to make them more versatile. Empire Silver Co. was acquired by Lifetime Brands Group and was added to its list of eminent American silver manufacturers including Gorham, International silver, Towle Silversmiths, Wallace, and Kirk Stieff as well as other houseware brands including Kitchen Aid, Sabatier, Mikasa, and Fitz Floyd. I gave these a hand polish. There is still some tarnish. These are in great condition. Each stick has a very small dimple on the bottom rim, hard to see and impossible to photograph. I collected sterling candlesticks of various heights and designs and would put them randomly down the center of my dining room table. When not used for a meal, I would gather them together on a large silver galleried tray that had handles and would put them on a sideboard. I am polishing candlesticks and trays and will be listing them. I am downsizing and am selling most everything. Non-smoking household.
