Higher ratings will also provide comfort but also provide more therapeutic levels of pressure needed to treat some more severe conditions. 20 - 30 mmHg rated compression garments are considered light medical compression and are used by people who suffer from moderate swelling or for preventing blood clots after surgery. HOW TO MEASURE: To get the most accurate measurements, it is best to have a therapist, professional fitter, or friend measure your hand for you. Index Finger: Let your fingers relax; measure the circumference of the knuckle on your index finger. Palm: Measure the top of your palm, just under your knuckles. IMPORTANT: All compression garments should be replaced after six months of normal wear. They start losing their effectiveness after that time and will appear looser.
