Item description

Mercury figure missing arm. Beautiful and rare antique Meriden silverplate calling card tray, likely dating from the late 1800s. This striking figural piece features a man resembling the Roman god Mercury holding a large ring, with a detailed tree stump behind him. Two intricately cast birds rest inside the tray, which is supported by three ornate feet. The piece appears to fall within the Antique Aesthetic or early Art Nouveau movement, judging by its stylized naturalistic elements. Maker: Meriden Measurements: 2 1/4" high to edge of tray 7 3/4" high to top of Mercury figure 7 3/4" across the tray Condition: Displays well with strong patina. One arm missing on the Mercury figure, and some scratches on the bottom. I have not attempted to polish it. Please review photos for details. This tray is hard to find, especially with this specific backstamp and figural design. A striking and decorative piece, perfect for collectors of antique silverplate, calling card trays, or mythological figural items. Please feel free to ask questions or request more photos ? this piece has so many beautiful details that are hard to capture. Be sure to check my other listings for more antique and vintage treasures!
