Item description

Sumner County has a rich history and deep ties to the earliest part of United States history and is located on the northern border of Tennessee and Kentucky. As part of the greater Nashville metropolitan area, Sumner CO was first explored by British trappers and hunters as early as the 1760s and would become valuable land due to its fertile soil and access to local waterways that fed into the Mississippi River, which was one of the most trafficked trade routes during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The American Civil War marked a period of occupation by Union troops throughout Tennessee, and by the time of this mapโ€™s publication, the region had experienced growth through reconstruction. The regionโ€™s economy remained predominantly agricultural and supported thriving farms that produced tobacco and hemp for export to European and northeast markets. Sumner County has a distinct culture influenced by the first English settlers and the geography of the region. The County was named after American Revolutionary War hero Jethro Sumner who was a senior officer in the Continental Army and led troops in numerous battles throughout North Carolina and Virginia. By the latter portions of the nineteenth century, the United States economy was growing, and demand for agricultural products had grown significantly, spurring growth and development throughout the region. Nashville was only twenty-five miles to the south and would become one of the most iconic southern American cities. This map bears a classic aesthetic that immediately transports the viewer back in time. Our museum quality giclee print comes printed with archival ink on premium heavyweight matte paper. Shipped in a sturdy cardboard tube your print will arrive ready to be framed. This eye-catching vintage map reproduction print makes the perfect gift for anyone that loves history and imagery.
