ITALIAN, PARATROOPER, TRIBUTE STATUE, CERAMIC PORCELAIN ON MARBLE BASE, CIRCA 1950's Paratrooper is mounted on a marble base, Approx 8" tall, 8" long, 5" wide. Signed either FO or CO on back of the statue. History of this piece: This originates from the estate of Green Beret Uwe "Roy" Duchow, MSGT, 5th Special Forces Group, Detachment "A" 5th SFG, Airborne. MSGT Duchow also served with 10th Special Forces Group, Bad Tolz Germany. MSGT Duchow received this piece from his father Oberjager Willie Duchow, who was a noted WWII German Luftwaffe Paratrooper during WWII. Oberjager Willi Duchow fought on several fronts to include Africa, the invasion of Crete and fought against Allied Forces during Operation Market Garden. Oberjager Willi Duchow was featured in the book "History of the German Helmet" in which Willi was featured and referenced several times. Oberjager Willie Duchow, received this piece as a gift. These we originally sold at the Camp Darby PX in the early 1950's. In June 1951, the United States and Italy concluded negotiations to establish a line of communication and supply through Italy, in support of U.S. troops stationed in Austria. The military complex was formally dedicated to become a permanent U.S. Army facility on November 15, 1952 and named in memory of Brigadier General William O. Darby, Assistant Division Commander of the 10th Mountain Division, who was killed in action on April 30, 1945 near Trento, Italy. Since its establishment, Camp Darby has served successively as the 7656th Logistical Command, the 7617th U.S. Forces Austria Support Command, USA Logistical Command, 8th Support Group, Area Support Team ?
