Item description

This is a clear lucite or acrylic tissue box/holder. I purchased this in the late 1960s or early 1970s. I set up my first household after leaving school and purchased mostly "mid-century modern" furniture and accessories. This was used primarily in a guest bath. The holder comes in two pieces. The box holds standard size tissue and has outside dimensions approximately 10 3/4" x 5 1/2" x 3 1/4", including the plinth base. The lucite/acrylic panels are approximately 1/4" thick. The plinth base is approximately 3/4" thick. The plinth sits on 4 half-round feet that add approximately 1/4" in height. The box panels and the plinth have straight, flat edges. The second piece is a rectangle fitting inside the box, a "lid" to the tissue, measuring approximately 9 7/8" x 4 1/2" x 1/8". The "lid" rides on the tissue and goes down as the tissue level goes down. The "lid" has a large oval (approximately 6" x 3") cut into it for the tissue to come through. The outer edges of this piece are beveled, the oval cut-out has straight edges. The box is very sturdy weighting approximately 2 pounds 13 ounces without any packing. I cleaned the box with Novus cleaner. I observed 2 small scuff marks on the "lid" each measuring approximately 1/4" round. It is not very noticeable in my opinion, especially when there is tissue in the box. The glued seams are noticeable at some angles and in some light. They are less noticeable when tissue is inside. There are occasional light surface marks or rub marks visible at certain angles and in certain light consistent with its age. The box is not marked with any maker's mark that I could find. It does not appear to be yellowed or discolored. I do not have any box that it came in, if it even came in a box. I am down-sizing and am selling accessories. Non-smoking household.
