This is a pen from a local collector it is the Sterling
Silver "Luxor" - Blue Nile Fountain Pen by Montegrappa. The pen is in
mint condition and still in its original shipping box, complete with all the
original, elaborate packaging, booklets, and a remarkable display box shaped
like a pyramid.
Released in 1996 as a homage to ancient Egyptian
civilization, the Luxor Collection is deemed one of the most exquisite and
sought-after pens in Montegrappa's impressive lineup.
The medium-point, rhodium-plated 18-carat solid gold
two-tone nib is meticulously hand-crafted, while the barrel is expertly turned
from blue celluloid and heavily overlaid with solid sterling silver, featuring
two natural sapphires. The pen's underbody is fashioned from the finest cured
celluloid of deep cerulean blue.
The pen symbolizes the River Nile, a crucial element of
Egyptian life, much like the celluloid that underlays every aspect of the pen.
The "bas-type" relief casting that overlays the celluloid body and
cap echoes relief sculptures from the Old Kingdom in the third millennium BC.
The barrel section showcases a Pharaoh and his Queen as the
most prominent figures, emphasizing their status as divine rulers. The Pharaoh
wears the double crown of the United Kingdoms of Upper and Lower Egypt,
representing the Nile Valley to the south and the Delta to the north. His Queen
dons the feathered headdress of a goddess and the sun disk, symbolizing daily
rebirth.
The pen adheres to the strict rules of Egyptian aesthetics
and proportion, enhancing its authenticity. Thoth, depicted as an ibis in the
cartouche, is the god of learning, letters, and wisdom. The cap illustrates
"the judgment" for passage into the afterlife, where Horus, the judge
of the dead, weighs a feather against the deceased's heart to measure their
deeds. Thoth records these deeds as a scribe.
Isis wraps her son Horus in her wings to protect and support
him during his judgment. Other figures in the funerary ritual include Maat, the
goddess of truth, and Anubis, the protector of the dead (represented as canopic
urns). The Pharaoh's crown themes adorn the cap with the Vulture Goddess,
protector of Upper Egypt, and the Cobra, protector of Lower Egypt. The scarab
beetle, symbolizing eternal life, crowns the pen, with sapphires set in the
eyes of both the cobra and the scarab.
The 18-carat gold nib with platinum inlay features symbolic
gestures with the falcon and sun disk iconography. The craftsmanship quality
that created Egyptian artifacts thousands of years ago is vividly reflected in
the Luxor pen. Owning this limited edition Montegrappa Luxor is truly...
"the privilege of a lifetime"! (Taken from Montegrappa's marketing
materials).
The serial number is 585/1912. There is a 7-day money-back
guarantee (excluding shipping) if the item received is not as described.
All paperwork is included, I only allows 24 photos and I ran out.
This pen came from a private collector who owned over 60
luxury pens. One could not tell that any of them had been used. She either took
immaculate care of them or used them so sparingly that it left no sign of use.
