Most Vintage and Antique Folk Textiles are in high demand and are valued for their traditional regional motifs and fine handcrafted details. I have available here this absolutely ONE-OF-A-KIND gorgeous handmade vintage Romanian Cotton Velvet Beaded Vest from the early part of the 20th century. This is a museum quality textile piece showing some light minimal wear. I would highly recommend that it be hung in a shadow box as part of an ethnic textile collection and hung on the wall. It's that awesome! It is so exquisite that I really hate to part with it from my personal collection. This meticulously hand embroidered gypsy style beaded vest is encrusted with bugle beads and tiny seed beads and must have taken a hundred hours to complete. It is bordered by a gold twisted rope braid trim all hand-sewn on and lined on the inside with a cotton floral print as was most common in ethnic textiles of the Baltic region. I believe this vest may have been created to accompany a musical band of gypsy performers at one time since it's so ornate. CONDITION: Excellent Antique Condition as a Folk Art Textile piece which can still be worn if one chooses, or framed into a collection. There are no loss of beads or patches missing that I can see as with some textiles and has been very well taken care of. The only minuscule things I found after scouring this piece was on the back where there is a tiny-tiny spot near the left shoulder, two small scratches in the velvet (one in front one in back), and a few pulled thread in the back near the beading at the waistline. I did not want to cut the threads so an not to unravel anything. However, I thought I would mention these very minor issues. The beads are bright and colorful and of course show some oxidation discoloration inside the bugle beads, but still catch the light that makes them sparkle brightly. There are no rips, stains, tears, holes, fading or cuts in this Romanian vest. Size: US Size 10-12-14 or Bust 34/36. Romanians/Hungarians would say it is a Medium to Large. Most European folk-peoples are much smaller in build than their American counterparts. Therefore, this folk blouse would fit comfortably on a teenager or medium sized adult woman. This ethnic gypsy folk vest and can still be worn for folk festivals, costuming or in a musical troubadour group. ?? Measurement ??
