Item description

Description: This colorful rectangular 8 3 / 8 x 10 3 / 4 inch hanging wood panel art drawing shows the complex of medieval buildings of the Russian Orthodox Trinity Monastery of St. Sergii located in the city of Zagorsk. The buildings are drawn with many colors of Gold, Greens, Tans and Browns with a blended skyline. .* History: Zagorsk is the name used during the Soviet era of a town northeast of Moscow. Sergiev Posad is the pre-Soviet and post-Soviet name of the town. The name Zagorsk was given to this town after the communist revolution in 1917. The name Zagorsk has the rough English equivalent "A place after hills" (or "a place which is more distant than hills"). The name Sergiev Posad has the meaning "village settled by Sergius".) (Source: Park.org) Although it is nowadays an industrial centre with a population of over 100,000, its fame rests on the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergii (a Lavra is the highest rank of Orthodox monastery, and there are only four in all Russia), the Russian Orthodox equivalent of the Vatican, which has a complex of medieval buildings to rival those of the Kremlin. (Source: www.moscow.info) Plate details: .* Picture has two plastic hooks on the top left and right for hanging on a wall. .* Picture front side: As described above, shows the building of the monastery and skyline with the name of the city Zagorsk in large letters in the top right corner. The entire border or rim of the picture is painted with alternating green and tan semi-circles. The grain of the wood can be seen in the skyline areas of the picture, which adds to its beauty. There is no damage to any edge or corner of this side. .* Picture back side (Photo to be added later): The back side has a 2 1 / 2 inch square white label with blue printing in Russian language. Also pasted on the bottom of this white label is a small label indicating it was purchased at a Russian retail store called Beriozka. The two hanging hooks on the top edge of the picture are attached to the back side wood material with 2 brad nails on each hook. There is no damage to any edge or corner of this side. .* Picture side edges: The side edges has clear half circles with black imprint drawn around the entire edge of each side. The half circles perfectly match the semi-circles on the front side of the picture. .* Dimensions: Rectangular 8 3 / 8 inches wide, 10 3 / 4 inches high. The two plastic hooks on the top side extend an additional 1 / 4 inch above the top edge and are 3 / 8 wide. .* Place and Date of Manufacture: Unknown location. May be marked in back label in Russian language. Presumed manufactured in Russia, since it was purchased by my mother on a European vacation tour around 1985. .* Material: 3 / 8 inch thick wood. There is no damage to any edge or corner of this item. Condition: See front and back side details. The item is in excellent condition. It is a used item. Sold as is.
