Item description

STATOR-MASTER DVA - Direct (Peak) Voltage Adapter Now with Duty-Cycle (Inrush Protection Bypass) (Red Button) CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) Diagnostic Aid. Max 400V Outboard Engines, Quadbikes, Motorbikes, Jetskis ... etc. (Manufactured in the UK) The Stator-Master DVA (Direct Voltage Adapter) enables a standard DMM (Digital Multi-Meter) to measure peak AC voltages. This is key to successfully testing and diagnosing faults with CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) systems as commonly used on Outboard Engines, Motorbikes, Quads, Jet-skis, Lawnmowers etc. Without the ability to measure peak voltage, good ignition components such as Switch-Boxes, Coils, Triggers and Stators can be incorrectly diagnosed as faulty. Equally these components can be diagnosed as good as resistance readings may in fact meet the workshop manual specs. but in reality the component could be failing under load. Conventional DMM?s don?t have the ability to display peak voltages as when the CDI?s RPM vary, in turn, the frequency of the AC output voltage varies. The Stator-Master DVA allows for the measurement of AC voltage at the very peak of the AC sine wave signal. Peak readings will be significantly higher than standard RMS AC. A good example of this would be, that the typical RMS AC reading of a 50Hz UK wall socket is 240V. However, the reading using the Stator-Master DVA would reveal that the peak of the AC sine wave is in fact nearer 330V The only meters with built-in peak reading capabilities are expensive specialist meters. Everyday DMM?s do not have built-in peak-reading capabilities and are therefore not capable of displaying these short-duration voltage pulses. But ... with the addition of the Stator-Master DVA, a conventional Digital Multi-Meter can capture and displays the peak value of the AC sine wave, long enough for the user to see the Voltage displayed. Using the Stator-Master DVA couldn?t be simpler. Connect the universal meter plugs to your meter?s normal connections, set the meter to DC* and set the scale to 400 or Auto-Ranging. Connect the crocodile clips across the terminals to be tested referring to the workshop manual?s diagnostic procedure reference voltages for each ignition component (often for both cranking running conditions). *The DC voltage setting on the meter is required, even though you are actually measuring peak AC voltage (Max 400V) as the Stator-Master DVA rectifies the voltage converting AC to DC, smoothing the signal so the meters Analogue to Digital Integrator (ADC Converter) can display it. Use of the Duty-Cycle (Inrush Protection) Bypass (Red Button) When diagnosing an engine that is running but with a suspected ignition issue; If conducting a discharge test i.e. measuring output voltage from CDI/Switch-Box/Power-Pack to Coils. Connect the DVA clips between: 1) CDI Output Wire to coil (at either end) Don't break the connection 2) Ground/Earth The ignition needs to be on (engine running) for this test. For this particular test, the voltage being measured is normally too intermittent to read with the default DVA configuration as there is a built-in Inrush voltage protection circuit that will likely read as voltage showing lower than expected. If so, conduct the test again but depress the Red Button while noting voltage. This bypasses the built-in Inrush voltage protection circuitry allowing for the measurement of instantaneous CDI voltage with a Duty-Cycle i.e. occurring less frequently, corresponding directly to the firing sequence of the coil/cylinder being tested. Supplied with 1m long Integral Test Leads Lifetime Warranty [exceptions : Physical Damage Water Ingress] Available DVA only or DVA with Digital Multimeter
