Item description

Vintage original 11x14 in. US lobby card from the silent film crime drama, THE TOWER OF JEWELS, released in 1919 by the Vitagraph Company of America and directed by Tom Terriss. Written by Lucien Hubbard, beautiful Corinne Griffith plays against type as Emily Cottrell, one of the most respected members of a large gang of crooks. The cast includes Webster Campbell, Henry Stephenson, Maurice Costello, Charles Halston, Estelle Taylor, Edward Elkas, and Charles Craig.Th The image depicts an dramatically-lit close shot of Emily Cottrell (Corinne Griffith) disguised in men's clothing as she fearfully removes the famous necklace known as "The Tower of Jewels" from a safe inside the home of wealthy David Parrish (Henry Stephenson). The caption in the lower right portion of the image reads: "Emily at work." Printed for the film's original 1919 U.S. theatrical release, it is unrestored in fine- condition with one or two pinholes in each corner; light foxing along the top edge in the left quarter; a small stain in the top right corner; a stain on the bottom right corner along the edge; a light surface scrape in the bottom border near the right corner; a slightly rounded bottom right corner; and a light 1.25 in. and 0.75 in. diagonal crease on the bottom left corner. There is a light area of waviness across the top border.
