Item description

About 7" tall, and 5" wide folded. So they were die cutting them from standard sized sheets and fitting as many as possible to each sheet, very efficient. Four pieces of thin card stock connected by some little metal pieces they pivot on and swing out to form a nice hand fan. They pivot on the bottom rivet then move along channels in the cards guided by the top one. The back piece does not show, it just helps hold them together and in place. I can imagine someone driving to the bank to make deposit then getting caught in traffic on the way home and using the fan right away. May have been given out at the Deptford Community Branch. This one features a familiar religious motif and there is in very small print on the front at bottom the identifiers "Christ Knocking At The Door, 8605, Litho In USA, (c) A. Scheer". Scheer produced a variety of sentimental prints that could be ordered by number, for example I found #6740 and it is Jesus the Shepherd. This product is a great example of diversification for the market. Everyone could use another fan for hot weather back then. Totally Americana and American Dream, I used to see this image everywhere growing up. By the seventies he had been replaced by Jesus the Super Cool Dude. I don't know what to call today's image, maybe Jesus the Festival Host. I got some assorted examples of these from another dealer back in the 90's and no telling how long he had them. My period estimate is the fifties, and if they are sixties they are early sixties as no zip code with the address. Unused condition and they have been stored indoors and in a box, they may be showing just a little age or very minor wear, please consult the detailed scans. If you buy more than one we will charge you only the first shipping. Have some other examples listed, check them out. I think these are first class historical community and business advertising souvenirs.
