Item description

This is a 5 book lot of novels by John Mortimer. In addition to the Rumpole series of mysteries, Mortimer wrote plays and stand alone novels. These are 5 of the stand alone novels. They are Paradise Postponed (1985 1st 1st), Titmuss Regained (1989 1st 1st), Summer's Lease (1988 1st 1st), Dunster (1993 1st American 1st), and Felix in the Underworld (1997 1st 2nd). Paradise Postponed and Titmuss Regained are the first two books of a trilogy known as the Rapstone Chronicles. These are political novels set in the Thatcher era. The books have been described as "wickedly funny", "penetrating", and "observant of social ways and means". Summer's Lease is both social commentary and mystery. Dunster and Felix in the Underworld end in trial scenes that only Mortimer could write. None of the books are ex-library, price-clipped, or remaindered. None have a bookplate or other marks of ownership. Paradise Postponed has a cocked spine, a small stain on the lower right front cover, and somw wrinkled corners. The spine top and bottom have minor bends. The upper right edge of the first page has shadowing of former pencil marks. The dust jacket has no tears, splits, chips, chafes, or stains. There are occasional very slight corner wrinkles. Titmuss Regained has no tears or bumps. The spine is cocked. There is a small stain on the front right bottom open pages. The spine is cocked on the top. The dust jacket has no tears, splits, chips, or stains. The jacket spine top and bottom have small wrinkling. Summer's Lease has no tears, stains, or bumps. The book spine is cocked and top and bottom have some wrinkling and the book spine bottom has some rub marks. The dust jacket has no tears, splits, chips, or stains. The jacket spine top and bottom have minor wrinkling and the front flap has a fold mark on the top right. Dunster has no tears, stains, or bumps. The book spine is cocked. The book spine top and bottom have slight folds. The dust jacket spine top has a small tear. Felix in the Underworld has no tears or bumps. It has a stain or color bleed on the inside back cover lower gutter and on the outside back cover lower right. there is a dark area on the front cover middle near the spine. It appears to be water or moisture damage. The dust jacket has no tears, splits, or chips. The jacket spine top and bottom have some wrinkling and the spine bottom has some staining or color bleeding again from moisture or water damage. . There are occasional chafed corners. I am downsizing and am selling the bulk of my library. Non-smoking household.
